Introduction To Alexa

Hi I am Alexa and I would like to tell my story of how I became a PT for Underground gym.

Long, long ago when I was at school, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do when I left school. I had always been confident and bubbly until my final year and then I suffered with anxiety. I’m not sure where this came from but I wanted the old me back. I started doing an admin job and it wasn’t really what I wanted to do but I still was unsure of what career I wanted. I didn’t do much on my own as needed support from friends but I did know I loved going to the gym with them whenever I could. I wouldn’t go alone and was always waiting for friends to be available to meet me which was frustrating and I was annoyed with myself. One day after a comment from a friend who thought he was helping, but actually wasn’t, I realised I didn’t want to rely on other people I wanted to do this on my own.

My first solo gym session was at UG Tunbridge Wells, little did I know at this point I would be working here full time, I actually cried when I walked through those doors and did a little work out on my own. I say a little work out. I started off in the corner on the stair master then had the courage to venture into the gym and use the bench press.

From there my confidence began to grow and I actually decided I wanted this more than anything to be my job. I knew I would have to overcome being in a classroom with people to learn and also sit my exams but I suddenly wanted it so badly. Literally as I had decided I wanted this a reception job popped up on Instagram and I applied. My admin and telephone skills were enough to get me the job and I loved every minute. I asked my manager if I could be put on a course and was told that I could. It wasn’t easy for me but I passed my level 2 with flying colours. I then went on to complete level 3 PT and level 2 nutrition and most recently a spin Instructor course. I cannot tell you how much I love this as my job. I love to help people and see their journeys and encourage anyone who is maybe nervous to join or start at the gym. I have had to hold in the tears at times when I hear people’s stories or journeys or how happy they are at their progress. I’m like a proud mum, sister or daughter to my clients. I am helping others and also this is helping me and I couldn’t be happier.

Thank you UG gym for believing in me.
